Skimmer mod

OK, OK,
I know that everyone groans when they hear anyone with a coralife skimmer has problems but I wanted to find out if anyone has ever attempted or read about attempting the "mesh" mod on a needle wheel. I have a Coralife skimmer and am trying to get it to output a finer bubble. The impeller on the pump that comes with the skimmer has a "needle wheel" but I see that most of the bubbles that it produces are not real small. I know a mesh would help that alot after reading about the other mesh mods out there.

Not complaining, just interested in hearing opions other than "go buy a better skimmer"

Thanks a bunch.

Rob

enkamat I believe will help -there's a lot of nw payers in this forum .
And yes get rid of that skimmerLOL

Hey I got an Octopus NW 150 for sale....if you want to upgrade skimmers. This skimmer is easily modified with Enkmat.

I got better performance from mine (before I replaced it) by cutting off the molded 90 degree inlet and clamping a 3/4 in. tubing straight from the pump. This moves more water and makes more bubbles. Keep the water level lower than instructed (middle of the chamber above the red collection cup collar). That will give you drier skimmate and help prevent overflows.

Of course that will void the warranty. :eek1:

Reddawg - How much?

Pedro - Thanks for the tip, I will have to try that too. I have found that adding air pump to the venturi keeps the air flow constant and really helps with the over flows. I have had 3 of them before the air pump and none since.

hey, ezdive I dont know how much room the css has for the enkemat but I do know that if u get fishing line and intertwine it through the impeller it will cut up the air better

The problem with those coralife skimmers is that there is too much distance that the water needs to travel before it goes in the chamber. Thats why the octopus, asm, and euroreef styles are superior
