Skimmer options on 60 cube

I've had my 60 cube up and running for about 9 months. I currently have 3 fish in the tank and am running a SWC160 Cone. If I add anymore fish, it will only be one more.My problem is the skimmer is not consistent. Its my guess lack of bioload so its not retaining a head of foam. Water chemistry stays consistent with nothing added to keep the skimmer from foaming. Water level is cosistent. Had a thorough cleaning, and airlines are all clear. I've always believed in having the biggest skimmer possible, however, in this case I am having my doubts.
Anyone have any input to help me out or suggestions. Should I go with something smaller thats more effective at removing nutrients consistently?
My total water volume is around 65G.

Did u check the white volute that slides into the pump and look for salt build up? I run this skimmer on a 60 and its a beast with a modified impeller. I am around 70 total gallons with 7 fish.

I have never owned SWC160 Cone skimmer but I had SKIMZ SM 121 and SRO 1000 INT prior to settling on my current skimmer JNS Sk2.
JNS has none of the issues you mentioned and it's rated for tanks 200 gal +.

IMO SROs build quality is far inferior to SKIMZ or JNS but the Water Blaster pumps are superb.

nanotank what type of mods did you do to the impeller? I stripped the skimmer down completely and checked for any obstructions or buildup. Nothing out of the ordinary was found.
Thats some nasty nog snootch.
Never heard of the Reef Diablo.

Thanks for the input guys. I will do some searching.

I would check the above along with making sure the impeller and the airline are clean. My XS160 was performing badly until I cleaned the airline. Now it's very reliable.

I use a Bubble Magus NAC6 on a 60 cube and it does idle at times. My skimmer body, from the pump output at the bubble plate to halfway up the neck, is a solid mass of foam. At no point can you see into or through the bubble mass. It is this way always, whether foaming into the cup or idling. Just as a point of reference on bubble production.

I swapped it out temporarily for a SRO1000SSS to try for comparison. I think the bubble production is a bit better in the SRO but have to see how consistent it is before I make a judgement on making a permanent switch.
After researching everyones past experiences with the 160 its my guess its mostly due to having such a light bioload. Thanks for the help guys.

I use a SWC120 in a 60 cube and I will say at first I did not like the build quality or the micro bubbles, now that its been in the the tank for some time it pulls a good amount of skimate . I only have 5 fish and a handful of frags, I feed 4 time a day. I have had 3 SRO skimmers in the past but I will tell you fo the money you cant beat the SWC. have you tried to feed more to increase the bioload a bit.

I ran a SWC 160, Octpus Xtreme 160, NAC7,NW110,chinese knockoff Cone skimmer, currenly running SRO XP1000sss on my 60 cube. They all perform great except the chinese knockoff cone skimmer. so pick your poison. LOL!!

I would narrow my choices to a skimmer with the pump underneath the body of the skimmer, sumps for cube's can be a PITA, every square inch counts.
