building a custom sump in my fish room, kind of hard to explain but i have a recirc skimmer above a sump that has a compartment in it before the return pump. was thinking of adding a scrubber in there and using the output off the skimmer. would there be any benefit to this since the water should have high o2 or even air bubbles? or is there any negatives?

I have long held the opinion that while we can come up with all kinds of clever logic about what should precede what, in the end it doesn't really matter all that much. Plumb each piece of equipment in whatever order is most convenient. FWIW, a skimmer doesn't actually add much in the way of oxygen to the water, even though it seems like it ought to. Tested my tank many times with a dissolved o2 meter with skimmer on and skimmer off - guess what, no difference. ATS probably does more to add oxygen (though I never did test it).

+1, higher CO2 levels out of the skimmer would be ideal into the feed of a waterfall scrubber. More for bennifet of the scrubber and to maintain the ALK levels, IMO. If a scrubber doesn't have enough CO2, it WILL eat up bicarbonates (resulting in lower ALK readings) quickly. I'm not saying the skimmer wouldn't provide enough CO2 to the entire system to provide for the scrubber.. as I really don't know. I don't know how much is going to gas off prior to being fed into the scrubber. But skimmer directly into scrubber in my thinking would be more idea.
I've done something similar with the effluent of Ca reactor directly into the skimmer. It negates ALK drop completely in my experience.
