Skimmer overflowing at top

I have an Octopus skimmer (model 500 or 5000... whichever it is that is made for a 500g+ tank). Lately it has been overflowing out of the cap/top instead of filling up into a separate container via the hole at the bottom of the top where it should drain down a tube.

It looks as if the bubbles are getting too thick and the skimmate is collecting upwards instead.

Any idea why this would be happening? Do I have the bubble line too high in the neck? Maybe the hole is too small for the drainage?

How deep do you have the pump in the water? IF anything, I'd raise the water level in the skimmer so that it skims wetter...I had this problem and I raised the water level in the skimmer and it works amazing now.

the skimmer is working fine. You can raise the water line in the skimmer so the skimmer skims a little more wet. This will make the foam the collects less dense and not push the lid up as easy. Had the same thing happen on one of my atb skimmers. Once the skimmer got cought up and dialed in it was no longer a issue.

I think the problem ended up being the tube going to the external container was getting overly clogged. I cleaned it out and everything appears to be back to normal.

I think I will either skim wetter going forward or poor a cup of water in the top of the skimmer cap every now and then to help force the gunk down it better.
