skimmer overflowing

i've been trying to run my new ASM G3 (adjusted to the lowest level) on my sump, but every time i try it's overflowing. i believe the reason is i used stress coat when i transfered all my fish to a the new tank. is there a way to take the stress coat out of the water? i tried using carbon and it doesn't seem to work

i would turn skimmer off a day or two and then skim away, if it still continues then just keep emptying until it subsides. thats what would happen with my skimmer as well. i also had similar
reaction with red slime remover.

dialing back the air input into the venturi can also help, but don't dial it back too much or you could impact the impeller :). If it starts making a rattling noise then it is dialed back too far :)

there are quite a few things that will make your skimmer go nuts... those listed as well as even some underwater epoxies (for frag mounting, etc).

also a blocked venturi intake line will do it as well.

if you want to clean our your skimmer, get a 5g bucket of water, put some white vinegar, and let it run for a day, then the next run it in rodi water. rinse, and it should be all ready to go.

The only way you're going to get rid of the stress coat is skim it away. Even large water changes won't remove it, just dilutes it. Everyone has given you good hints so far to reduce the overflowing enough so that the slimy foam spilling over into your collection cup is the removal of the stress coat. Just pour out whatever you get daily, DO NOT pour it back into the sump for any reason thinking it is just water, because it isn't, or that will just make things worst. Replenish your lost water with freshly made saltwater. After awhile, the skimmer will stop going nuts and you can readjust the air back up and then your exhaust as well. It will take daily removal for at least a week. Good luck!

oh yeah, and run a bunch of carbon in a filter, changing it out every three days or so. that'll help take out anything in the water to a certain extent as well.
