skimmer & powerhead for an AP24

I'm starting to notice that the maxijet pump doesn't provide enough circulation in the tank. What do you guys use for water circulation in an AquaPod 24g?

Also, water's always cloudy so I'm thinking of adding a skimmer in the back Any suggestions?

for my aquapod 24 with 150 halide i used a coralife 65 in the first compartment and switched out the pump it came with, with a maxi-jet 1200 it says its only 5 gallons an hour more but I think its much stronger, as others will agree. and for the last compartment im planing on puting in the aquaclear refuge i built for my 5 gallon.....its either that or a penguin hang on for some extra filtration. Hope this helps

maxi's are very good units. the most over looked aspect is that produce less heat. watts of power used. for the same flow as others. also their dependable, versitile.

I mod'd the tank, and added a second return with a dual output, and then put a Hydor on the original return. I have a chiller that I had a MJ900 origianally, but went to a MJ1200 for better circulation. I then moved my chiller closer, because the MJ1200 was actually making my tank hotter! So I put the MJ900 back in for the chiller. I also added a Remora Nano Skimmer with a third MJ900. I am also thinking about adding a hand on on the back for additional filtration, just not sure what I want to do yet.

Do you have any pics of these mods?

Also if I upgrade to MJ1200, would I have to change any of the original plumbing parts (hose and etc). If I am to mod it so it has two outatakes, could I do that with the original single outtake? Or would I have to drill a hole for a second MJ?

Another question popped into my head. If I do install two MJ pumps for return, would that pump out too much water from the back at the same time? Could this problem be fixed by opening up a few more overflow slots on the 2nd chamber?

with the maxi jet switch i just cut a piece of the hose where the old pump slipped on the pushed in the maxi jet then i rubberbanded it tight. a hydor is a flow deflector you put on the end of you maxi jet outputs
