Hello all

once again everthing is running and working well in my tank(the calm before the storm) and then i here my sedra pump for my skimmer humming. the pump stopped and messed the levels up and so on. my question is i have read to try and soak the propeller in some vinegar. does anybody know how long and should i also soak the pump too?

thanx in advance mike

When my Sedra pumps have stopped it was because something got in there and stopped the impeller but then the pump continues to try to run and the heat builds up in there until the magnet on the impeller swelled up and was then too tight to rotate even after cleaning it out.
Luckily the impeller for my Sedra 5000 is only $20 and the Sedra 9000 was $30 so it's not a huge expense to get things going again.

If you can get by with just cleaning you should only need to soak it overnight to get things going.

If you have a needlewheel impeller and there aren't a bunch of missing pins you can just buy the standard sedra impeller and pop the needlewheel off then swap the magnet part to your needlwheel and be back in business.

Hope that helps,

Yup... that's the place I get mine from. I am not sure if anyone else around carries Sedra parts. Someone told me that some Gen-x pumps have interchangeable impellers with Sedra pumps. I know Greg has Gen-x at Aquatic Tech if you are closer and wanted to give it a try.

Let us know how you solve it.

Good Luck!

this morning i woke up scrubed the impellar off after soaking it overnight in vinegar and to my suprise it started right up. im so glad i didnt have to make over an hour drive to salty. thanx again for the assist guys!
