skimmer pump

Anybody got a Sedra 5000 needle wheel and/or whole sedra 5000 or equiv (oceanrunner, etc.) in the junk box? Mine finally gave up the ghost a couple of days ago, I'm skimmerless.

Also thoughts on single pass vs. recirc if I go whole new skimmer (say an octo 200 versus a 150 Recirc)?

I have a Sedra 5000 needle wheel (modded) that I am not using because it would not retart everytime the power was turned off, it may just be as simple as a new needle wheel, not sure, but you are welcome to try it and see if it work for you.

Yep that's what is happening to me. Modded wheel, won't restart.

It was quite an ordeal to start the pump each time. Plug in, make sure wheel turning, turn pump vertical, obstruct water intake, blow in air tube to get bubbles going, open water intake, insert in skimmer.

But it sat powered for 2 days without turning, I think the magnets on my wheel are shot now.

Are you coming to the meet sun? Would love to borrow and see what happens.

Well I got it going. Took it apart, got it spinning and dunked it and it started pumping. This is the last modded pump I'm ever going to do.

I think I'm going to use this as an excuse to upgrade when the my tax $$ comes in

Modded pumps are fine as long as the mod is done correctly. I've run the same mesh mod Octo pump for years with no problems.But have no exp with the sedra. Most all MFG now include both stock & modded impellers. The good ones anyway.
