I have a SeaSide Aquatics CS2 skimmer, and it won't fill up all the way to produce any sort of skimmate. The bubbles won't reach the top of the cone... It is in about 1' of water. I have tried it at many different depths and none seem to work..

Can anyone help?

What size tank do you have it on? How many fish? Do you feed often? I would think that skimmer would operate in about 7 to 8 inches.

I am going to jump in here and look for advice as well. I am setting up a 140 gallon tank with about 20 gallons in the sump. It will be fairly heavily stocked. I am looking at the:
Avast Marine CS1
Avast Marine CS2 "Black Pearl"
Reef Octopus SRO-XP2000SSS
Reef Octopus POV-DC2
Vertex Alpha 200
Bubble King Mini 200
Bubble King Supermarin 200.
My main concerns are noise and performance. I want the best silence to skimmate ratio. Does anyone have experience with these skimmers, or can recommend something else? I am overwhelmed by the choices.

i would personally get the RLSS 10,
with controllable air injection from 900-1800 lph,
i usually prescribe 600-700lph of air injection to every 100g of water.

My stock sicce psk2500 died and I had a sedra 5000 laying around so I tried it on the ATB840. Here is less then a days worth. I am having doubts if I need to upgrade pumps?

if you look at the bubble breaking point, and how high it has to be to get decent gunk in the cup,
i would say the sedra 5000 is a poor replacement pump for such a fine skimmer...
it moves too much water and not enuf air,
imo, it should be nothing but foam in that neck.
i think a sicce psk 1000 would be a better choice for replacement.
the psk 2500's are a performer, but at the price of stability.

^^^^ The Tunze 9420 is a great replacement for the Sicce 2500, I did a direct replacement for my I-Tech 200, the impeller are cheaper than the Sicce 1000.

Thank you, skimmy. I appreciate your advice. I would like to know why you recommend the RLSS? The lowest lph of the skimmers I listed is 1100, so with 160 gallons that's 687lph per 100g. The RLSS 10 is the same price as the Reef Octopus XP3000. Do you think the RLSS is better? If so, why? Is it quieter? Thank you for the help.

You may want to know he has a history of selling the brand he promotes.

I'm not sure on the larger RLSS models but I recently just changed from a Vertex Omega 150 to an RLSS R6i on my 120 reef and it is kicking tail. It's dead silent and set and forget. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I would agree with liking the design of the RLSS line, most of it is very well thought out and seems to be of very good quality.

the psk 1000 is good or pretty much the same as the tunze 9420 hydrofoamer...

cones are not needed. They are becoming popular as they have found cheaper ways to make the smaller cones. Smaller meaning 8 in base or so...

Sorry all I have taken a little break from the hobby a while. My experience has not anywhere as I still help out my friends here locally. Hope all is well.

Mojo~
