Skimmer Q&A Thread

I honestly can't comment on the above skimmer but for 275 $ I'd take a stab at it.

I wouldn't recommend a skimmer that is brand new to market with no real reviews or even other members that tried it out. Also, it's rated for 175 gallons, so it's still way too oversized for his application

That's why I said I'd take a stab at it. Somebody's gotta try it. Btw it's only a 5"diameter skimmer so it's overrated. I will say this though, it looks interesting and the pump is proven.

Do you think the Aquamaxx Cone 3 would be overkilll for my 120?

Yes only because it's not a space saver and speaking from experience all the 6"Aquamaxx space savers work extremely well so a non space saving model with that proven cone/full body hybrid shape will be great on 160ish gallons or so.

Is that cup neck cut diagonally? What's up with that?

If it is then must be designed the run a skim locker only.

Not much of a reaction chamber

Looks interesting!

If you read back a few pages (194ish) mojo was recommending the Sea Side Aquatics CS2 (now the CS8) for tanks about your size. He even recommended it over the ATB 840 v2.

I also hear good things about the AquaMaxx EM200, but those are on backorder as well.

I had a SSA CS2. They are decent skimmers with the sicce psk 600. They skim well.

Any idea's for a 29g? I see these cheapo ones on ebay for like 50$ but I dont want something ill have to clean every 3 days.

Thanks a lot much cheaper then the AquaC!!! Any chance you know the depth on this? My tank rests 3 3/4" inches from my back wall :sad2:

Ouch, that's going to cut it really close. The cylinder itself has a diameter of 3", it really depends on the plumbing. You may want to call Eshopps and ask them.

RLSS R6 SOLD OUT
Aquamaxx Cone 2 SOLD OUT

Why is it so hard to get skimmers right now. Any other alternative suggestions for a 120 Gallon tank.

I see the AquaC Nano Remora Hang on seems to be pretty nice a tad pricy but only requires cleaning every 3-4 weeks. Hrmm

imo, Aqua C remoras are a mediocre, loud skimmer that require obnoxiously large pumps hanging in the tank. and running it with a maxijet 1200 is pretty **** poor, hence why most upgrade pump to something larger.
i wish someone would make a good cone hob skimmer that is in a rectangular body, just like a bakpak or remora...
for that size tank i would go with a CPR aeroforce HOB, aquamaxx HOB 1, or a hydor slim skim if you dont mind something that looks like an overflow box in the corner of your tank.

Would like to go with an RLSS internal skimmer. DT is 437 gallons using a 40 breeder as sump. Guessing total water volume around 400 gallons. Mixed reef, not overstocked with fish. Would you go with the R-10 or R-12? Depending on which store you research, the R-10 would be perfect size or slightly undersized.
