Skimmer Q&A Thread

Hey, I'm.happy to have.come across this thread. I'm setting up a 40 breeder sps tank with 40 breeder sump. I plan to use biopellets and have several skimmers in mind. I want the best.fit for my needs. Choices are, bm curve 5 or seaside aquatics es5, seaside aquatics cs5.5, reef octopus nwb110, reef dynamics ins80. The reason the curve 5 and seaside aquatic es5 are both on the list is because the es5 uses the sicce pump. Which one of these would be the best fit?

Mojo,
I'm setting up a 120gal display with 30gal sump. I have 15.5" x 10" of space in my sump. I'm starting with fish only that will be at a medium bio load and eventually add corals. I'd like to stay under $500. Thinking SRO xp-2000 or life reef sv3-24 or perhaps diablo DC-170? Any input greatly appreciated!

opinions on reef dynamics vs aquamaxx? Going to be for 70gal total volume sps tank.
Robert

The Aquamaxx has the better pumps by far. They also perform just as well at a fraction of the cost. I've ran both brands and I like the Aquamaxx better.

No experience with life reef but I've heard nothing but good about them.

I got an awesome deal.on it. I can actually buy the sicce pump and.still not equal the pricetag of the seaside aquatics es5. I figure I will be buying the sicce and keeping the rock pump for a temporary replacement if the sicce ever needs.an.impeller or replaced.

Mojo! I hope you read this

I hope this is the place to be for Protein skimmers!!! I didn't want to read the entire thread because i would be there for days so if I missed an answer to my question i apologize!

I have a 90 gallon, there's a very very small chance that i would be upgrading in the future to a 180 gallon so the skimmer would be temporary for the 180 untill i purchased a larger one, and that's if i even buy a bigger tank or even a 180, i might go for a 240, what's a reliable in sump skimmer that can handle a heavy bioload that's around 300 bucks or less. Thanks everyone

Your post is confusing. Are you looking for a skimmer for a 90g or 240g?

With a $300 budget, your best bet is to look for an used model.
