Skimmer Q&A Thread

crickets....lol... yeah... the ecoplus is a strong quality pump and Jeff from reef dynamics is using a great impeller assembly on em... better than a sicce... perhaps so, depends upon the impeller assembly of the other mfg...

Oh... people... stop oversizing your skimmer.. it does nothing but produce erratic results vs consistency... ya don't need it.

I think I have narrowed it down to 3 of the 6 skimmers I was looking @.
I need to order one this week , Because my Upgrade will start next week.
Here is the rundown, 180- a 75 sump. Roughly 225lbs of LR. Light to mild bio on fish , Powder brown, regal tang, fox face, 3 cardinals, flame hawk, mandrine, carp. wrasse.blenny Lps Dominate. Med To heavy coral load.
Skimmer of choice.
Reef octopus extreme xs200 ( not the diablo ) 30 watt
Reef Octopus NWB 200 8" Classic .. 41 watts
Super Reef Octopus 2000 Internal ( high side of my budget but I like the 30watt .

not to cludder the thread , but to give you a idea of my coral load.

extreme xs200. which one is "not the diablo" ?

After replacing my pump on my Euroreef skimmer for the second time is there a better pump that I can replace it with that will make it out perform the sedra 3500 that it came with and last longer

If you have pictures too would love to see them thanks

Ok, I'll bite for suggestions. I've been away from reefing for a while now and lots of new stuff is out there.
Reef Octopus dc pumps seem like just another gadget to play with and the xs 160 changed to Aquatrance pumps. never heard of them.
I have a 93G. Sump footprint could be tight but not height.
Also the octopus says 6" of water. Does anyone keep their sump 6"? Not me...10 +
I want a quiet pump. living room style...

You might look at Reef Dynamics with the Eheim. I bought the INS-180E and I cannot hear it standing right next to the tank (tank is also in my basement living room). Super Quiet. For the 96 you might look at the INS-135E. They still say about 7" of water though. I just threw mine on an egg crate stand with PVC. The nice thing about the Reef Dynamics is that you do not need height above the skimmer to take the cup off. Unscrew and it comes off horizontally.

Excellent suggestion BUT $699.95 Holy ouch batman. Maybe something not so nice and a little louder LOL

If. You have the (xx)100 Euro reef. Tunze hydrofoamer 9410 will work. Little too much pump for the 80.

Hi all, I have a 220 gallon display tank that I am restarting from the ground up. I have a EuroReef RS 8-3+. I've been pretty happy with it. Want to keep a high bioload and go overboard a bit on the skimming so I'm thinking I need more than what I have.

My options are:

A) sell Euroreef and upgrade to a brand new skimmer

B) keep Euroreef and buy a second, new skimmer

I'm kinda leaning towards B b/c not sure how much I can get for the RS 8-3+ and heard it might be a good idea to have two skimmers. I have a decent footprint to cover two if I needed.

With either path, any recommendations? My ceiling is probably $700 or so on a new skimmer.

Thanks!
