Problem with G4X Skimmer

So I just bought this Skimmer the ASM g4x skimmer with a sedra 15000 pump on it. I plug it in and it keeps overflowing...what do I do here please help?

Okay... I would like to keep the skimmer price under 500.

It's going in a 120 gallon with around 20 fish, 2 or 3 of them tangs. What skimmer should I get?

I was looking at...
-the Vertex In-180
-Octopus Xtreme 200
-Octopus XP2000 Cone
-Octopus Super Reef 2000

Which is the best?

And just a random thought... Would the Octopus Super Reef 3000 be overkill? It looks pretty cheap for a skimmer rated up to 300 gallons.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I have a 90 gallon DT/40 gallon sump. Do you think that a Vertex IN 250 would be too much?Cause I might be able to get one used for 3 months, for less than a new IN 180.

Thanks.

The slide tube should be all the way down. if its still overflowing then raise the skimmer. Its in too deep of water most likely.

what is your water level at. If its not too deep it could be from epoxy.

I would go with the Vertex in 180 or the super reef 2000. I like the neck design on the vertex and yes the 3000 would be overkill imo. The design of the vertex is a little better but the pump design on the super reef is a little better. So its your call the vertex is cheaper....

The 180 and 280 are better. The 250 is really tall. its like 30in tall. it is harder to get that one dialed in with the added head pressure of the height of the skimmer.

The 180 is about a perfect fit for you.

Hey, seems like there are alot of fans of the vertex skimmers for the midsize tanks. Wondering if you guys think a vertex IN180 would be enough for a 90 gal SPS only tank w/29 gal sump. I am planning on dosing vodka/MB7 so I might need more pull than usual. Or do you think I should drop the extra cash and get the Vertex IN280? I had considered a MRC MR-1 as well. Thanks!

How does the Reef Octopus Cone stack up to the Vertex In-180 and super reef octopus 2000? I have the option of buying a used one for 250.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I'm setting up a new 29gal. tank with 10-15gal. more in the sump. Based on this thread and a couple others, and especially on the great help/information from Mojo~, I think I have narrowed my choices to Vertex IN-80 or Bubble Magus NAC6. Would anyone care to offer some advice to help me choose one of these- or maybe something else that you like better?

Thanks!

hey i am going to by a skimmer for my 90 gallon reef tank with heavy bio loud and want to spend 400 max! i have been looking at alot of forums and hear alot of mixed opinions. i have been looking at asm g2 , MSX ,VERTEX 180 , EURO REEF RS135, OCTOPUS SKIMMER PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE A SKIMMER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

I have a 2 year old euro reef rs80 on my 75 gallon med bio load tanks with 20 sump.

How much of an upgrade would a oct ext 160 or a vertex 80 be?

These fit my sump. 11 by 9 space.
Thanks

The vertex in 80 will have a little larger foot print and will be builtjust slightly better than the NA6. However with the NA6 having the pump on the inside it will take up less space and will do a decent job for $150..

The vertex in 180 would be a great choice. I ran the same skimmer on my 90g for some time. Minie pulled 32 scfh of air right out of the box. I was abe to mod it to get more . I hit just over 40 scfh on my vertex in 180 but It actually ran better stock. it s a nice running skimmer for the money. A280 is simply way to large. It will not skim consistantly and you wont be happy long term what so ever. Its a 10 in body skimmer as well.

You would find that it will pull more air and probably some more junk out of the tank for a couple days and then you probably wont get as much. You little euroreef should do a pretty good job for you. If you had a heavy bioload then I would say go for it. I am not a big fan of just spending money for no reason. other than skimmers...... lol. But really I think your RS 80 should do just fine for you. Might save the $$ and invest in upgrading th tank somewhere else

What would be good skimmers that is reasonably priced for a 800 gal that is med to stocked?

There are none reasonable for 800g. lol. JK
These are ones I would consider. you will need to cycle a good amount of water.

ETSS 1000 xr
The reeflo Orca pro 2
Deltec TC3070
ATB large
OR maybe go with two skimmers?

Those are just some ideas. Lots of water on one system means big skimmer.

Actually 2 msx 250A or 300A skimmers would work really well and probably be the route I would go as it would more efficient. Unless you need external then I would look at the others and maybe even the bermuda bps 10 or 14

Just my two cents.
