I would not suggest the marineland skimmer to anyone.... it works. but not good for the money.

If the bk mini is out of reach there is a super reef octo that would work but it has a 10 in body. So its not really small. The bubble king is the way to go. Otherwise on the small side you could go with a msx 160.

Hey Mojo! Thanks for taking the time to respond to this thread you created. I recently purchased a vertex in180 that I am going to be running on my 75 with 40 breeder sump. The skimmer compartment is going to be 12L x 17.5D x 11H. What water level have you found to be optimum for this skimmer?

I hope this is going to be like night and day as I am upgrading my skimmer from a hob remora pro to this vertex. Is there going to be a lot of tweaking to get it to skim properly or is it pretty solid out of the box?

I would run around 7 to 8 inches. I ran mine about 7.5.

The skimmer will be night and day from your remora.
when you start the skimmer simply take it out of the box, plug it in and let it run wide open overnight. the next day start to raise the water level. once set you should not have to adjust it again.

I got my MRC Ocean Force 100 last night. I raised it about 5 to 6 inches in my sump. With my sump level at 13" it is now at the perfect height (thanks Mojo). The build quality is great. Built very solid. It is very compact and simple in design. It has been producing a great head of foam so far, but no skimmate as of yet. The only issue I have is with the return pipe being under water and a "gurgling" sound b/c of backpressure. I drilled 12 holes in the return pipe, and will cut the pipe tonight to fix that issue. Other than that so far, so good. Thanks MRC!

Anyone familiar with this skimmer?

I am running one on my 57g right now. Seems to be doing ok really. No complaints. If I could improve one thing it would be how the neck of the cup sits inside the the neck of the body. it has a little step there. Other than that its a inexpensive skimmer. Works well but not as solid as some of the higher priced models.

i currently have a D&D typhoon stock that puts out nothing but soda fizz, it has bin running for about 2 weeks no change. do you no any good pumps i can use to replace the stock pump?

The D&D typhoon is about online with the CL Super skimmer. I wouldnt invest the money into make that skimmer better honestly.

its a 60gal Fowlr setup with 1snowflake eel, 1 fuzzy dwarf lionfish, 1 blue spotted tobie, 1 tomato clown 1 moon wrasse. also have 2 canister filters, 305 fluval and a 404 fluval. one has carbon next with grade 10 crushed coral.

Hi,

I've been looking at my current skimmer (SWC DNW-110) and doing a little thinking. Why are most skimmers short? Short being a relative term.

From what I understand about skimmer design, it seems that a taller skimmer (maybe 3-4 feet) would be much better due to the increased contact time the bubbles would have in the skimmer body.

It has more to due with most people wanting all their equipment to fit beneath standard aquarium stands.

A taller skimmer is definitely more efficient.

Waiting on the new impeller for the swc 120. Should be in hands in a week. there were some prototype wheels and I am waiting on the production wheel before I cna pick it up.
