Skimmer Q&A Thread

Mojo,
I'm getting a 260g tank to run mixed reef. Mostly sps, but some LPS, softies too. I vodka dose, and plan to continue.

I've been looking at the SWC/MSX 250A and 300A as a good combo of performance and price. I'm not willing to spend the $1000 for an ATB 1050A. Are there other skimmers in the same price range that you would recommend over the 250A or 300A? I don't mind paying a little more if I get a corresponding improvement in performance. Would you recommend the 250A or the 300A for my system?

Thanks.

The super reef Octo 3000 would nt be bad. Or the 5000sss. The MSX 250A is a really nice unit.

Hello All

I have the above skimmer actually it's and SWC but they both look the same to me I've searched and was wondering what mods to increase air intake to the skimmer can be done? i was wondering if a second air intake would introduce more air into the skimmer right on the elbow where the air intake is now

Thanks

Anybody have any experience with a KZ Revolution S skimmer? Noise? How the aquabee pump holds up?

I am thinking about one for my 40br build.

Thanks

Mojo, I've been researching the vertex alpha 300 cone and the Bubble King Supermarin 300. Which would you recommend? Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

The super reef octo 2000 would be a better fit. Or the vertex in 180 , or the ATB 840.

Th supermarin is one of the nicest skimmers on the market. You do pay for it though. The vertex alpha 300 is a beast with dual pumps and is a very large skimmer. Both are nice units. I like te supermarin design.

Would the 300A be too much skimmer for my future tank (260g, 45 gallons of water in the sump/refugium, and vodka dosing)? I may add a 20g frag tank at some point too.

I have a 240g with a 60g sump. It's a mixed reef with 7 soon to be large fish in it.

I was gonna go with the Vertex in280. Will this skimmer work? I wasn't really trying
to spend $500 plus on a skimmer but I do want something that will work. So if I need
to spend that much them so be it.

The 250A and 300A use same pump just a larger body. So same amount of water and air. But more reaction time. If you have room for the 300 it would work well.

It should be fine for your mixed reef. Its a really nice skimmer for the money. :)
