hi im looking at the red sea c-skim 1800 just wondering what if any the reviews are on it , its goin to be for my 209 gal with 55 gal sump and 20 gal fudge ,, it seems priced right and very maint friendly,,, thanks,,

Thanks. If the stock pump is working ok, is it worth it to upgrade to the tunze? Will there be better production?

i would wait until you have an issue with the pump. No sense throwing money away....

Looking for a new skimmer and I'm kinda confused. I need to have an external skimmer for 100 gallons but my sump is 14" tall. Most that I am finding seem to have a low output tube and I thought you couldn't have the output go up (reading the aqua c directions show that it must go straight in or it will overflow the internal body of the skimmer). How does it work or what should I get?

yea they need to go straight in. Set the skimmer on a stand outside the sump.

H&S skimmers have a higher output. might want to look at those. Great quality units too.

um, cant say a lot about it other than it would not make a list of my top choices. Priced right doesnt always mean good for your system.

You need to have something cycling a lot of water. Honestly for the money get a Aquamaxx am250 with the sedra 9000ho pump. Pulls a ton of water and 1000+ lph of air. retails at 379.

hey mojo what size pump do you recommend for that geo skimmer. 8inches wide, 27inches tall external and on a 220 tank?

bb5000 or askoll 1500 would work well.

oh sorry as a feed pump it would work well. You will most likely need to put a valve on it. But it will be pretty close.

how many gallons do you think. a valve to tone it down? i have a MJ1200 too.

well 1.5 to 2.5 system volume for a feed pump. So 2x is a good starting point. The mj will not be enough

Great thread Mojo! I'm just not up to reading all 125 pages-sorry if this has been asked.
I have a 120 mixed reef, heavily stocked tank. I feed heavily. I do have a sump but it is pretty full so I would prefer a hob skimmer. Do you have any recommendations that don't cost an arm and a leg? Thanks for your help!

Hey guys, looking for a suggestion. I have a 180 with a 55 gallon sump. I'm open to internal or external. Efficient pump not a concern. Want something that will easily handle a heavy bioload for a budget of up to $600 ish. I have a Bermuda 8 on another system that I run and I love that thing. Too bad Bermuda aquatics isn't making them anymore. Oh, and low maintenance is a must!

I have a 110 with 35 gallon sump, so about 125-130 gallons of water volume. My sump is 15" deep, so I will run 7-10" of water in it. The tank will be primarily fish but I might shift to some corals, and only moderate stocking. I want to use an in-sump skimmer.

Based on reading this thread, I imagine you would recommend the Reef Octopus Extreme SX 200 (http://www.aquacave.com/reef-octopus-extremebr-sx-200-protein-skimmer-brby-coralvue-3147.html) for my size tank and sump depth. Is that correct? The Aquamaxx AM 250 seems to be a good alternative, but it may be too much for my tank, right?

What about the Tunze DOC 9016? I don't see much written about it but Tunze seems to make good products.

Another question - what is the difference among the following models of in-sump Reef Octopus skimmers: Reef Octopus Extreme 200, SRO XP 2000, Reef Octopus Super SRO 2000, and Reef Octopus Extreme SX? They range from $315-400 and have slightly different tank size ratings.

Mojo, i really have you recieved your skimz yet, i look forward to the review. I had been recomended to get one over about anything. Was told there performance should come close to matching BK with a much lower price tag. My main concern is, i think its made oversea's and i would think customer support would be lacking, maybe not tho so...

Correct me if im wrong but dont BK's have a rediculous long warranty on parts.

I was looking into the supermarin 200 but if the performance is near the 201 skimz i may change my mind.

if you can find a used warner marine H2 or the newer aquamaxx HOB's are the way to go.

you are borderline really. both will work well. the 2000 int will be a better fit as things get bigger.
