Skimmer Q&A Thread

Hi Mojo, I just set up my Aquamaxx HOB. It's a good looking unit and the instructions were easy to follow. One question, when I ordered the skimmer, the description online said Sicce Syncra 1.5 pump (11 watt). When assembling, I noticed the pump that came with it is a Shark 1.0 (11 watt). Is this anything to be concerned about? If it were you, would you contact the seller and insist on the Sicce Syncra?

Thanks,
Gary

Addendum: After posting this, I did some research and found that the Sicce Syncra is aka Shark 1.0 I shoulda researched that before asking you. Thanks anyway.

I need help on which skimmer would be right for my 72 gallon with a 30 gallon sump. i currently have the in sump Marineland 100. I bought it because I do not have much room in my sump. I have hated it since about 1 month after I bought it. TOOO sensitive and once you take the motor out for cleaning you never get it to stop rattling. I am ready for a good but compact in sump skimmer. Can you help me Skimmer Guy?

Mojo, I have a 120g with a heavy bio-load and just upgraded to a PM 36x16x16 sump/fuge and plan to upgrade my skimmer from a PM Bullet 2 to an in-sump skimmer. I have a $500 budget. What in-sump skimmer would you recommend? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks guys - As far as I can tell a recirculating skimmer would require another pump so this one is out due to my limited real estate...maybe it's a good buy for somebody else

Small and compact is the skimz 121 and the Sea side aquatics cs1. Check out those two and see what you think.

Looking for some help identifying this skimmer....Would be used in a 24x24x18 cube with a 10G sump...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/REEF-OCTOPUS-PROTEIN-SKIMMER-/320771125346?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aaf72f062

it is def the 110. the octo 1000 pump gives that away. The 150 has a 2000 pump and the 2000 uses the octo 3000 pump.

The octo pumps are Aquamedic ocean runner knockoff pumps.

This skimmer was not really all that great. it was ok but just didnt compare to the H&S externals or the DAS/Deltec externals. Money better spent elswhere. IMO

Thanks Mojo - I think I like the Skinz, just wish it was a little more affordable. Will have to save up for this one but well worth it to get rid of the dog I have

Looking to solicit some thoughts on which skimmer - Feeling overwhelmed at the moment....

Here is the info I think is necessary to help:
- $200 budget
- 24x24x18 cube (45G)
- 10G Eshopps Sump

Looking at
- Precision Marine RL100
- Bubble Magus NAC6
- Vertex IN 100

Opinions or others to consider? Bummed that I just missed a sale by Mojo of a Warner Marine MF121....

mojo,

A little advice please. I have a Bubble Magus NAC7 with a mesh wheel. I am trying to find the pin/needle wheel version for the Atman PH2500. They are very hard to come by. So my question is would I be better suited replacing the pump? If so what would you recommend and how well would things align since it is an internal pump model.

Thanks

I have a quick question guys. I'm looking at picking up a Euro Reef RC-180 with the eheim pump for my 120 gallon and am wondering, if I can't gravity feed it from my drains, what pump should I put in the sump to feed it externally?

For $200 it is really hard to beat the vertex in 100 gen 3. Great skimmer The bm nac 6 would be my second choice.

The pinwheel will be great. Email Tom at socaltropical fish outlet. I know he either has them or knows how to get them. If you have any trouble let me know. As I can probably hook you up with someone if that route doesnt work out.

Gravity feed is never 100% consistant. Its not bad. But Ialways reccomend a seperate supply pump. It only take one surge and you have a mess on the floor.
