I would get an ATB 840 or reef dynamics ins135E(e for eheim pump).
Also, good choice... reef octo xs-200, xp2000 cone... sump space, sump depth and match that to the skimmer you pick. Run about 2-3x water volume through the sump and you will achieve excellent results.

I am putting together an sps dominated 75 gallon aquarium with a 30 gallon sump and I may plumb a frag tank to this at some point down the line that will likely be 20 to 30 gallons in volume.

What would be the best skimmer to buy?

I should note that any choice needs to be quiet since the tank will be in a bedroom environment.
I am currently considering an Alpha 170 or BK Mini 160.

I am putting together a 180g with 40g sump.

I am putting a Reef Octopus DDNW250 Dual 10" Recirculating Protein Skimmer on it.

Any ideas or pro/con ? The threads I looked up were 2-3 years old.

Thanks!

Sizing question. Is a Skimz 161 going to skim consistently on a 55g + 15g sump or is it too big? Not sure how accurate/bloated their ratings are.

Thanks

Was wondering if an ATB 840v2 would be big enough for my 133gallon mixed reef aquarium? Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

yes it would Drsalty, out of the thirty skimmers ive owned, i felt the atb 840 was the best balanced skimmer,

void you might go down to the 121

tyler if ya can find a atb 840 that would be a perfect fit

I have a 50 gallon DT and my sump has a chamber that measures 11x15" with a 7" depth. Calculated total water volume is about 49 gallons. It is evolving into a LPS reef and will have no more than six fish. I am favoring the Reef Dynamic INS80 but would be open to any other suggestions in the $250 - $350 price range. Thanks!

Tom

Possibly upgrading my 220 to a 360. Rig now I run a geo custom skimmer that is a beast on it but it won't be able to handle the upgrade. Any recommendations?
Recirc vs becket?
Thanks

Need advice on skimmer

Need advice on skimmer

I had the itch to try a new skimmer, so just sold my SWC 150 today and am between these two skimmers. Thoughts? Is the Skimz 161 too much for my tank? Any other options?

(1) Skimz Monzter 161
OR
(2) Seaside Aquatics CS1

Space in sump is only 10 inches by 9 inches for skimmer which has water that runs at 9 inches high.

Tank is a 100g reef, heavily stocked, with 20g sump.

Any advice would be very very much appreciated before i hit the buy button.

also would like stay around $300 for it.

I had a Euro Reef RS 80 in my 55 gallon tank and it was a perfect size for the tank, it worked perfectly had nothing but success with that tank, I could not even put one more coral in. So I think you would do great with the INS 80 aka ER RS 80 skimmer.

bubble king submariner

bubble king submariner

I just got a bubble king submainer 200 I've had it about a week it is over flowing and its pushing bubbles from the outlet. I looks like the pump is pushing too much rate but its the pump that came with it. Please help

Got the Skimz 161

Got the Skimz 161

Just FYI, I bought the Skimz 161 skimmer (its been wet for the weekend). Good quality (on par with my SWC). These pumps are now on the third generation with new impellers, so very quiet. It's not really pulling any dark skim (looks like light tea), but i know I have to have some patience while it breaks in.

I am kinda missing the easy gate valve on the SWC. You can control water level on the SKIMZ, but its not as easy. When i turn off my pumps, the sump raises a few inches which causes the skimmer to overflow if i don't adjust. Still tinkering...

Great thread here lots of great reviews and advice! i have a small question, whats the diference between a recirculating skimmer, needle wheel skimmers and standard skimmers? Another question is whats a becketts and why does some models have two becketts like the MRC?
THANKS MAN
