Skimmer Question

Is your skimmer supposed to be producing foam at all times? i noticed mine today wasn't really foaming and what was in the collection cup was liquid.. don't know if its supposed to be or not because this is my first skimmer.. if anyone can answer my question that would be great.. thanks

Hi Jim,

I have an ASM G3 and it does not produce the same amount of foam 24/7. Some days more, some days less depending on what I am doing to the tank(ie; feeding,cleaning,ect.)

Some of the cheaper skimmers (Sea Clone, Super Skimmers, Bak Pak etc... ) are very touchy to adjust and overflow quite a bit. I have had 2 Remora's, 2 Remora PRO and they constantly produce foam and skimmate but as Dave said if you don't shut off after feeding they tend to pull more out for an hour or more. My newest skimmer is always full of foam in the chamber but the skimmate production does vary depending on the proteins available in the water. Sound to me like you need to adjust your skimmer to skim drier (raise collection cup, open air adjustment, whatever method yours uses)

Is your skimmate dark at all or does it just look like weak tea?

yea its dark but just not alot in there.. been running since tuesday and theres barely a 1/8" in the cup.. and its not really producing any foam at the moment.. ill try and turn the air knob thing and see if it helps .. wish someone could come get this damn thing working! lol .. its a aqua clear the guy said if that helps?

Hi Jim,

When I saw your tank it was vey clean with only a few small fish.
You might not produce a lot of material to skim.

for some reason my skimmer was passing a ton of water today into the collection cup.. thank god i had it hooked up to a big tupaware container or i woulda had alot of water on my floor! don't know whats really wrong yet, guess ill have to try turning the air knob again... any ideas?

I would buy a quality skimmer. Im not a fan of aqua clear,sea clone,Jebo,via aqua,prism,cpr these skimmers are a PITA and most people have owned one of these skimmers at one time. Try finding a used Euro Reef 5-3 or CS80 ,ASM G-3 These skimmers are a true plug and play

the skimmer came with the tank when i bought it that's why i have it, i figure it's better than not having one at all for now.. maybe in the future i can get a decent one.. all i know is the guy said its a aqua clear, don't know what model or anything..
