skimmer question

thank you all for helping me out when i have questions, but here we go agian. i just bought a uased aqua c remora skimmer (thank you very much plyle02) got home washed it out hooked up to my tank and within 30 min junk started to collect in my cup. Then it would stop, now i think that i have read else where that when you feed you fish or stick your hand in the tank that the oils will stop the formation of foam, can anybody confirm this or do i need to adjust the skimmer.

Also one more thing will the skimmer help reomve phosphates in my water i have a cynao bloom right now. I know this is because i just bought new lights, but it seems to be holding its own. All of my testing read zero, but i don't have a test kit for phos.

I just read an article by Dr. Randy Holmes-Farley, and he states that skimming lowers phosphates. It's in last months RK Magazine, titled Phosphate and the Reef Aquarium.
