i have a large skimmer on a 180gallon reeftank - the skimmer is putting out plenty of bubbles but doesnt produce that much skimmate - its been running for about 1 year - no probs with nitrates/nitrites etc - but my question is how far up the column should the water be - i have been running it 3/4 of the way up

Is the neck of your skimmer collecting a lot of crud? The waste should be collecting somewhere. Also, what is your bioload on your 180g reef? Could be so light that your regular water changes are taking care of the waste. Your skimmer should collect something or you don't really need a skimmer???
