Skimmer questions...

First off I want to thank everyone that responded to my last post. I had a few questions about the 210...

I am split between a few skimmers and wanted to know what you all thought. I really dont want to spend over 500 bucks total.

Euroreef RS/CS 250
MRC Mr-2R
Aqua C EV-240

So far I am leaning towards the MRC but what do you guys think?? Also does anyone have any of these skimmers and what pumps are you running with them?

Mike, I have a Euro-Reef, not the model you are looking at. I also looked at the aqua C EV-240 and from everything I have read on the forums I am glad I went with the Euro-Reef. Very well put together, easy to adjust and once you set it you can forget it, no more adjustments.

Have you checked out the ASM G4+ or G4X? Same Sedra 9000 that the larger ER's use and same design, but its extruded PVC instead of cast acrylic.

Kinda sucks that the prices just went up on them though, I bought my G4X for about 425 shipped

needle wheels use less power are quieter in most cases and easier to run with less baby sitting.
I have seen a few asm skimmers while I have never owned one yet but they never seemed to be performing like the euro reefs I have seen and owned. since I didn't set them up or adjust them I can't say if it is user error or if thats just the way they run. the problem these days is the price of acrylic is going through the roof and skimmers are getting crazy expensive. I have a thread with a massive euroreef that would work great if you have the room but it's double what you are looking to spend.

Euro-Reefs do have superior finishing and are more heavily built no doubt, but with the same diminsions body and cup design and same needlewheels, I cant see what would make the performance too much different.

tang that is actually the best looking one I have seen yet. with all the different model euro reefs I have had and I am now usig an 8-1 with a sedra 5000 on it I get real close to that amount but about 20 shades darker. it probably really takes me about 48 hours to get that much if I start with a clean skimmer. but I am probably running a little drier than you which explains why my skimmate is darker. the neck transition looks a little smoother on the euroreef skimmers and this may or may not effect the performance. have you thought about the recirc. mod for your skimmer?

Yeah I skim fairly wet which explains my lighter skim, I dump and clean it about every 2 days.

I plan on doing the recirc in the next few weeks and feeding the skimmer from my drain. The only thing I need to get ahold of is a second uniseal for the pump.

The neck on the ER's is alot smoother without a doubt, which i'm sure improves performance, but I also like the fact that I can remove the neck at the large black collar to clean which is a plus.

asmskimmers.com has the seals . I did not know those come apart in 2 pieces. I think your smart for using the drain that is the way I would do it also. well will do it some day

I have the ASM-G2 and its done very well. It required a long break in period (about 2 weeks) but this could have been some user error in trying to find the ideal height (there were no instructions with my unit). I get similar skimmate to Northtampatang.
