Skimmer recommendations

Good Afternoon, i'm considering upgrading/switching skimmers. I have an Aquamaxx Cones-S CS-2 currently on a 94g cube, and have a very tight sump, and was trying to figure out what options are out there and if i can find something better.

The area in the sump for the skimmer is 10" wide by 17.25" long. The absolute maximum on height is 24.5" The baffles are 9.5" tall but usually have close to 10" of water level. So the skimmer can be wider than 10" if the part that is wider is above the baffles.

Also height wise, there has to be enough clearance to remove the collection cup on top.

The RLSS-R8-I with the DC6000 pump appears to fit in its place, so would the AquaC EV-180.

I'm hoping for something that makes close to zero noise, fits in the place.

I'm running a bio-pellet reactor and it would be an extra plus if the skimmer had some kind of threaded inlet that would allow me to hook T on the inlet of the skimmer to connect the output of the reactor. (usually a feature on external models)

I also have an external collection canister with a hose, that I would like to hookup to the skimmer.

I would be super excited if someone could recommend one that was recirculating or not dependent on the water level that fit all this criteria... (yeh a huge wish list)

Would the RLSS-R8-I be an upgrade or equivalent? The Ev-180 i know is older but is it obsolete/worse or better than what I have? Also what is noise level?

Anyways i would love opinions/suggestions

Thank You

Hi Nathan, what seems to be wrong with your skimmer now? That skimmer should skim the crap out that 94 with ease. As for the pellet out put you do not have to have it right at the pumps mouth in fact it is a false believe you have to have it even run to the skimmer. What you have to have is a good quality skimmer that is running properly with in your system. The Carbon that may circulate in the tank can be beneficial to many Corals and Bacteria. I think what you have is more then enough to handle your system and from what I have heard the Aqua Max are suppose to be very quite skimmer.

I hope that this may help you out and save you some coinage for Frags.
Oh Ya, as for EV being out date or not up to pare with the needle wheel skimmers. Needle wheel skimmers are just the craze for now, not they are not good and efficient . That EV -180 that you spoke of or even the EV-120 would smoke your Aqua Max but your Aqua Max is I sure quieter then the Aqua C's not by much but most likely.

I have the RLSS 8, it replced an octopus 150 sss int classic on my 90. It's a complete night and day upgrade IMO. if you do decide on the RLSS, the dimensions are a tad larger than what is advertised, but it's almost silent, except a slight whirring noise, but I can't hear it over my RW8's. All in all, I'd say it's the best skimmer I've owned but I've never owned an Aquamaxx before.
