Skimmer review..

Skimmer Guy
OK if you all remember I said I have tested a bunch of skimmers. I thought I would make a list and give you a little taste of what I thought. IF anyone has any questions on any of them just let me know and ill help you out.
1. AquaC EV 120- Well built but get a good pump. Mine didn't run real consistent

2. AquaC Urchin- Small little skimmer. Good skimmer for small tanks. would be good for tanks up to 40 breeder in my opinion.Get the pro if you want to go bigger.

3.Octopus nw-110- Was one of my first skimmers. Good little skimmer out of the box. Nothing special. Just a simple easy to use skimmer. Great bang for buck.

4.Octopus nw-150-same as 110 but a little bigger. Probably the most popular as it works well for so many tank sizes. Worth the extra couple buck. Great value.

5.MSX 160- Great skimmer But the sicce pump with mesh is a little hard to get to restart everytime without blowing in it. Well built but I didn't really think was worth all the hype

6. MSX 200- Better than the 160 I thought. more stable but it is big. 8 in diameter. A little big for just a 75 gallon tank. Good for tanks 100 to 300 gallons in my opinion.

7. ETSS Sumpbuddy 40- Probably my most favorite of all so far. Very small footprint. runs off mag 7 pumps. So if you need a pump they are easy to get. Very easy to adjust and no external piping to worry about.

8. CPR SR3- this was for a biocube 29. Don't waste your money. Very loud and not worth it in my opinion.

9.Biocube skimmer- I ran one for a while and skimmed very wet but it did skim. Cheap. Just not the same as the other skimmers. would rather change water than mess with this one.

10. Fission nano skimmer- HAHAHA Piece of junk. Don't even consider it.

11. Saphire nanocube skimmer- Worked ok. Didn't like the way it fit. Was suppose to be made for the cube and i was really loose and the inlet water would splash over the water inlet stopping the skimmer.

12. Vertex in100- will be here today. Looks promising. Almost just ordered another sumpbuddy 40 but thought I would give the new kid on the block a shot. Looks a lot like the euroreef.

Well I hope this helps any of you. If you have any questions on any one of the above skimmers let me know. Have a good day all.

I love my Tunze 9010. It pulls some pretty nasty stuff out of my 72. I am looking for a Tunze 9002 for my 22 gal. if any of you have one you are wanting to get rid of or know of any good deals out there. Though I haven't owned a Tunze 9002, I don't think I would go with anything else at this point based on the results with the 9010.

I have used the following:

Aqua C Remora Pro: Great hob skimmer but get it with the mag 3 upgrade. Good on tanks up to 90g

Aqua C Urchin Pro: Great skimmer with the mag 3 upgrade small footprint good on tanks up to 90g I had mine with the drain to a remote container which was great if going on vacation etc.

CPR BakPak2 HOB: Not bad but really needs to be run with an airstone to increase output.

Fission......as stated hahahahaha junk

Aqua C Remora: Have this hanging on my 29g and it pulls a decent amount of skimmate.

Euroreef CS 5-2: bought this used from Chad, thanks Chad, excellent and pulls an amazing amount of nasty junk easy to use and fits well in my sump.

I used the Tunze nano in my 29. It is the in tank or in sump version they have. Took up a little room in my 29, but was very pleased with it.

after doing a lot of research i just got a aquac urchin with the mag 3. talk about an upgrade from my CPR! quick question for ya, the hose is just slightly too long to hang straight down with the clamps on (and connected to the hefty mag 3) and it is slightly getting to annoy my OCD laden other self. anybody cut it to size or just deal with it? if i can cut it and get it to the right angle, i can position the outflow to dump right into my clean sump section as opposed to mixing with my pre-skimmed section again.
