Skimmer Screw

Roger, does the blue air-screw of the skimmer have to be in?

1) On my 9015 i notice that if i take the screw out totally, that the skimmer runs totally silent (when it is in, there is the gurgling noise).

2) Also the further out the screw, the wetter it should skim, so would removing the screw entirely removed afford me the wetest possible skimmate?

3) i think i've read that if the screw is not in that the skimmer wouldnt "self-clean" when i remove the cup - is this true?

1) Check that the sponge isn't obstructing the outlet flow, should be below the exit. Check that the elbow isn't in too far. Give it some time.

2) Yes, this would be full throttle.

3) That feature would not work as well.

so i can leave it off then put it in while i clean the cup.

That should work as long as you are happy with the skimmate production. I strongly suspect though that as the pump wears in loses some of it's over efficiency in the beginning this will stop.

Yes, basically the water throuput is a bit higher and this will reduce as the pump efficiency is slightly reduced by age and use.
