Skimmer Sucks Water with Air

My Tunze 9010 is configured for “in-sump” mode and sits on a platform with the “blue line” less than an inch above the water level. The air adjustment screw is almost all of the way out to allow plenty of air. This is the 3rd week that I am running the skimmer and about 200ml of wet skim is collected each day.

I notice that water from inside the neck of the skimmer is getting into the air inlets. Although the ozone inlet is not being used, I can see that it has water in it. If I clear the water from the ozone inlet with compressed air, water flows back into the inlet.

Every minute, I hear a few gurgling noises that I believe results from water being sucked into the vertical air shaft. When I remove the air adjustment screw, the gurgling noises stop. The noise stops because without the screw, dry air is drawn from the outside into the air shaft. With the screw in place, air and water from inside the skimmer is drawn into the shaft resulting in the noise.

I am considering keeping the screw off to stop the gurgling noise but I am afraid that salt creep will eventually block the screw inlet.

Is there a way to keep water from being sucked into the air shaft? When that happens, the resulting gurgling noise is irritating.

Thanks!

Just raise the skimmer a bit, the US pump is slightly stronger than the Euro pump so the water line is not exactly accurate for our stronger pump. If you raise it .25-.5" the problem should be solved.

That Worked!

That Worked!

Thanks, Roger!

Raising the platform a quarter-inch did the trick.
