Skimmer survey

Skimmer X, since I own it.

Yes, it usually does come down to that  There was a skimmer test done a few years back ..... cannot recall who did it - just google skimmer test The conclusion was mostly (summarized) that it really doesn't matter which you pick.

I think BRS did a video comparison on different skimmers.

I run a lifreef SVS3-30 IN-SUMP with a Mazzei Venturi and love it, Jeff is great to deal with and has amazing customer service. I've also heard that Bashseas' Twisted Skimmer are a great product too.

Life reef here also. Bought it back in 2000 for my 100 gallon. Over sized it so I could continue to use it. Jeff hasn't changed his design - no need. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

I'm in the subjective question camp. You will get a lot of different answers. Only thing I would suggest is the location of the tank and noise. Then factor in if you may have a upgrade down the road. Those answers may help you narrow down your choices.

Thanks all. My 150 is in the basement, plumbed through the wall to a DIY 55 gallon sump. Plenty of room, clearance etc.
another question: I have plenty of good pumps I can use. Can I buy just a skimmer?

I love my Bubble King. They are built so solid and it is a machine! Run it on my 240 with 30 fish and it keeps up so easily. They are definitely under-rated in size capability.
Have heard many good things on the Life-Reef too, but I don't own one so I can't speak personally, however you won't be disappointed with the BK skimmer brand!!!
:)
