Okay, I got this reef octopus hang on back skimmer, model hb-100. put it together, in the tank, set the cup, and turned it on. All's good.

Let me say that I have new water, new sand, and new rock in the tank. I just put the rock in last night, and no fish yet.
The skimmer seems to do nothing but rapidly fill up with water. I mean, it foams, but no matter where I set the thing, I either get MASS bubbles in the cup, filling up in about three minutes with clear water, or MASS bubbles spilling over into the output section.
It seems like I get too much foam action, but I do not know how to govern that - I have to leave it turned off until I figure out what I am doing wrong.
Can I submit a picture that would shed some light on my error? What would be the best thing - and please don't say 'skimmer, noob!' - to photo to help determine my problem?
Thanks in advance,
