Skimmer

Alright, so I have a 180 Mixed Reef with 110 Sump/ refugium.

I am wanting the best skimmer for the set up.

I am debating Reef Octopus 3000 vs 5000, but am also considering the SKIMZ brand Skimmers. I am looking at the SKIMZ Monzter 201 E series if I were to do anything other than the RO 3k or 5k

Here is the SKIMZ:

My understanding is with cheap skimmers you go bigger because they really aren't as efficient as they claim, but with a nicer skimmer like the RO, you want exactly what it is rated for so that it works correctly.

Anyone?

I have a 180 with a 80 gallon sump/fuge. I also have a SRO 3000 and it is a beast, pulls a ton of crap and I always have some nice dark skimmate. Aquacave has them for 415.

HTH

I'm in the same boat as you (180g in the making) and have been considering the SRO-3000 or the SM201. Because of the good customer support, I'm leaning towards the reef octopus.

i have a 170 gallon with a 75 gallon sump and a 30 gallon fuge and run a reefoctopus 200. love it its a beast.

I have a sro 3000int and it does the job well no problems.. my first choice was a Trigger Systems Bursa Protein Skimmer a reef member has one and it is crazy skimming machine on his 220 but they were on back order when i went to upgrade so i ended up with a SRO and I am very happy with it i do not think the 5000 would do much of a better job.

Thanks everyone tons of great info. I am really trying to get my water to the point that I can do well with SPS, but flow and filtration are needing the upgrade.
