Skimmer?

Hi all

I am building a 700g Main tank system (88 x 60 x 30 tall), I need some recommendation on skimmer and chiller. I live in SC so electric consumption will be a major consideration. Also, any bias for a controller would be appreciated.

Thanks

well you are openning a real bag of worms as you will get a lot of diffrent answers based on what people like, i personally would recommend a BK, or Reeflo.

Julio
You are right. Reeflo is much cheaper than BK. Is it just as good as a BK?

I have researched Scott's skimmer. Look lilke a power house. Is he selling these online? How do I get in contact with him?

Thanks for the inputs

Anyone with opinion on Tradewind chiller? Other better options? Looking at 1 to 1.5 HP chiller.

I have had a Pacific Coast Imports and a TradeWInds Chiller. The TW wins HANDS DOWN. I have the 1.5 HP, so I can sit it outside. Very good unit. By having it outside you release all heat from it outside, and not inside like most other chillers. I have been very happy with mine.... I highly recommend it !! :D

P.S> The Reeflow skimmers kick butt, they are a good price too. I would really look at them or a large EuroReef. Best bang for your buck in my opinion

I am getting the reeflo for my 450g system and from what I've seen so far online this skimmers performance is incredible!

I am leaning toward TW. Low Amp consumption compare to PCI.

I agree, Reeflo has great performance; but, its only rated up to 650g. My tank volume is at 700g and total volume maybe at 900g. Is one Reeflo good enough?

Thanks for the replies

hmm if you are worried about it not being big enough i know for a fact that there is a larger version coming out by the makers of the reeflo, i believe either the end of this month or next month that is supposed to be competition for the volcano skimmers

scotts # is 612-387-7377 there is a lot of attention to detail and custom with the volcano that you cant get with the reflo's. How about this my skimmer wasn't all that I wanted and scott(spazz) flew in on his dime and redid what I wanted AND did a acrylic demo for our local club. prob cost him close to a grand to make sure I was happy.

Ok...first of all, I don't think the ReeFlo comes in a size suitable for your tank, based on my discussions with them.

Barring the ReeFlo, in your size requirement, very few skimmers will beat the Volcano for all-around electrical cost effectiveness and skimming power. Deltec, BK, et. al. are all over-priced and under perform IMO. The one clear positive about the Deltec is getting the SCH. This is a major issue when looking at buying a commercially made skimmer, so please keep that in mind.

If ReeFlo makes a bigger one, how do you know it will perform like the smaller ones?

And if you are going for pure long-term efficiency, it's hard to beat a counter-current airstone skimmer like mine. It draws 120W and pulls out 2 - 5g of nog per day, depending on how wet I am running it. And the "wet" is still so putrid, when I emptied the collection bucket last night, the other two guys present fled the tank room. And it only cost about $600 to build...

If I was going to buy one made by someone else, I would give the Volcano a long hard look.

well my evaluation of the reeflo is that it performns amazingly well, i hooked it up to a 100G rubbermaid with no fish in it, just LR and within 5 minutes this is the skimate i was getting

within an hour it pulled out twice of that easily, i highly recommend this skimmer for anyone going with a system that is at or under 800G i think it could easily handle the bioload

Just spoke to Scott. The skimmer he is building for me is 75" tall with 18" body. Other options include: auto shut off, phosphate and O3 ports, bottom drain for easy emptying, he will also build a wet neck in this skimmer. Other recommendations? Scott has incredible knowledge about skimmers. Looking forward to receive this monster skimmer in one month.
Anyone with Scott's email address? Thanks

output from phosphate removal reactor. suppose to remove all impurity before going into the sump. good idea or over kill?
