I am considering purchasing another skimmer and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the octopus extreme skimmers. I have seen really good reviews on these. I am considering the octopus extreme 200 or an asm g-3. Both about the same cost.

Was going to put it on my 120 and move the g-2 to one of my other tanks.

Also if anyone has a good condition used one for sale let me know. I am still just in planning stage.

I just got an Octopus Extreme. Manderx and I just set it up last night so its a bit too early to see how well it works. This thing is pretty beast though.

let me know what you think after it starts producing, I am curious and am considering the 200 instead of the asm G-3. Looks like less power consumption and possibly thicker/better skimate. I do like the ASM g-2 and the g-3 would be an upgrade but the octopus is about the same price.

what size model did you get?
 
I thought that ASM was bought by another company and they quit making them with the ASM name.
 
Actually just got home and the skimmer has already begun to produce some skimmate. I am really happy with this skimmer so far and have high expectations for it. I got the Extreme250 from Reef Specialty. They do free shipping and their customer service is fantastic.

That is news to me, but plenty of ASM models still on the market, good skimmers for the price IMO. They may be selling off the stock, and like I said I am happy with the G-2 but need to purchase something for the other tanks so figured I would upgrade the 120 skimmer and use the G-2 elsewhere.

thanks for the input, I have been leaning in that direction. I just hope the 200 performs well also, and based on what reviews and forum posts I have found I think it will.

Would like the 250 like yours but will have a hard enough time fitting the 200 in the sump.

It might be a few weeks but I think I shall be making a purchase in the near future.
 
Oh, I happen to have both right here with 20ft of me !
ASM is a solid performer. plug and play.
The octx has a sicce pump its very fickled!! But it can be made to draw ALOT of air! (if you like to tinker)

I plan to sell one soon..
The octo is new (2mth) and I have spent a little extra to get it running awsome so it will be @340$

the G3 will be 135$ with 1.5yr pump, 165$ with newer (2mth) pump
175$ with both.. and mesh wheel..
 
wow charlie I ordered a OCT x 200 from reef specialty yesterday and am going to put it to work when it gets in $ 289 with free shipping hard to beat the price

however I will be needing another I suppose, and the price on your G-3 is very attractive, if you are ready to sell the G-3 anytime soon shoot me a PM
