I am looking for a skimmer for a 630 gallon DT plus probably another 3-400 in sump and such. I was looking at a euro-reef rc1000. But then I came across the ASM G-6 Protein Skimmer which is rated at 1200 gallons for a fraction of the cost. How much am I losing out on with the g-6? I am on a budget so I am buying alot of my stuff used or DIY. So if anyone has other skimmers to recommend or sell speak up.

A) Skip the ASM. B) Don't believe ASM on their ratings for their skimmers.

I have an Oct 5000 ext which Reef Specialty says can do 700g light bioload and 500g heavy. Think there is a bigger Oct the 8000 that is rated for like 1200-1500g. I love my 5000

I know there are still ASM users out there that will defend their skimmers but IMO there are much better options in todays market. There are many threads on this subject and everyone has their favorites. Sometimes it's hard to read through the muddy water but contact a few of the better known hobbiests (TOTM group is a good place to start) and pick their brains. Good luck.
ya found that one, for the price I don't think I can go wrong.

Come to think of it, I could sell you my monster skimmer. I have a MRC MR6R (My Reef Creations) that is still brand new that I changed my mind about using. It costs $1100 new and will skim up to 1500 gallons. It is a dual beckett recirculating skimmer.
I'd sell it to you for $550 which is half off, even though it's still new. I also have a Reeflo Barracuda with a Baldor motor that I was going to use for the recirculating pump...I'd sell that for $200.
