skimmer's making wimpy foam

My Deltec skimmer is so pretty but it has started to make very soft drippy foam. I know about raising and lowering the water level in a skimmer to make a drier skimmate. This is different. Sometimes water actually drips into the cup. We are feeding our skimmer from the overflow. It was working fine. Do you have any ideas?

Have you added anything to your tank? I know the slime coating liquid that you can get did something like this to my skimmer. It was back when I didn't have an RODI and I used some dechlorinating slime coat liquid crap.

IM thinking you should let me borrow it for testing. shouldn't take more than a year or two

Check your pinwheel for snails or other junk, run warm RO down airline to get rid of salt build up. Find a drillbit the size of the hard tubing the airline hooks to and with you fingers not a drill motor, run it in and out to remove the calcifacation build up. If that don't clear it up, break down and clean pinwheel and cavity, clean slime inside skimmer body. Also how often do you empty and clean the cup throat?

It's only been up and running for a couple of weeks. I've taken it apart and cleaned it once - besides the regular cup clean out every day or so. Tomorrow I will clean the throat and see if that helps.

Do you have an adjustment valve on the gravity feed ? The way it works is you should be able to adjust both the feed and the recirculating eheim. If I remember correctly you have to shut the feed pump (overflow valve) off and than set the skimmer height with the blue value so that the water level is half way in the neck of the skimmer, next you turn the feed back on and adjust the water level as you do on any other skimmer. I might have the adjustments (feed and recir pump) methods backwards as it has been a few years. I hope this helps. If you want me to walk you through it all me 572-9951. Also remember that it is a new tank and might not have a lot to skim out yet.
