i've been looking to refine my system to keep everything in good order. i have a 180g with a 75g sump besides the 200+lbs of sand i have 170lbs of rock and only a red sea berlin venturi skimmer in my sump with plenty of room to spare. i wanted to get a better and more effecient filter. so naturally my skimmer is my weakest link so as i research skimmers and skimming i find there is too much info out there to make an educated decission, so i'm wondering if anyone can make sense of the following info i have collected.
1. there are 3 types- venturi, spray, and injection(?)
2. things that effect ability to skim are bubble size, circulation, and air.
3.the price is 100 to 1000 dollars
4. they can be hard to "dial in"
5.they are water level sensitive
6.you can over skim
7. ozone can be used in conjunction with some skimmers.
so if the following info is true can anybody reccomend and give me good reason why a certian skimmer might perform well. i hear skimmers take out things like calc, iodine, trace elements,ect.. my skimmer works why would i want to replace it? how is skimming more, better? i hear names like ati deltec h&h & aqua-c who's does what and why?
