Skin-like Algae?

The last few weeks I have noticed an algae type substance growing in my sand bed. When I stir up the sand it stays in clumps almost like a cat litter box. I haven't experienced this before nor found any info on it.

It doesn't appear to be doing any damage, but looks sort of ugly. I think it might be a type of coraline algae but instead of growing on rocks it is growing in the sand.

Any suggestion on where to go for more info?

Thanks!

I have some Lobophora growing in my tank that is very "skin like" in texture and appearance. It's usually bright pink to purple in color, but is tough as leather and always grows attached to rocks. What you have sounds like Cyanobacteria.

I don't think it is cyano, I have had that before and this is somewhat different. Very clumpy and light brown in color. I'll try to take some pics and post them tonight.

I know this is kind of changing the subject but what did you do to take care of the Cyanobacteria?
I was suggested to move my power head toward my sand bed, run phosphate remover and neither of those seem to help, this is the first time I have ever heard of anyone naming the problem.
can you please share with me what you did to take care of the problem
Thanks
Bonnie
