skip the dry sand rinse?

May sound dumb but do you have to rinse live sand?

The real stuff (shipped air freight and handled like live fish/corals) or the wet sand in a bag that's been sealed for weeks/months?

The real stuff has urchins, crabs, snails and such that you want in the tank. This stuff you don't rinse. The bagged stuff that has water in the sealed container....I would rinse it to get all the dead bacteria and other crud out of it.

JMO.

i didn't see it mentioned but i used tap water to wash it and finished with a soak in rodi before i added it.
if i were to do it again i would definitely wash 5-10 pounds at a time instead of fussing with large volumes which seemed to take hours before i was content.

Forget about the sediments. Every bag of caribsea special grade I've used has had many other things in it like twigs. I rinse enough to get rid of that and then use filter socks. I like the sand though.
