The Apex has promise - the RKE wasn't perfect either. They just came out with their controller first, and went through the break-in and bug fix period already. I've read about folks with the latest firmware on the RKE having complete power outages. That would really chap my behind to pay $600 for something that was supposed to automate and prevent failures to ultimately shut everything down on a week long business trip.

I never said I wasn't buying a controller, I said I was waiting until the announcements at MACNA before I made my final decision. I have read through many posts and reviews and there are plenty of people who love the Apex. Just apparently none on this board, which is OK with me. I'm not afraid to be different.

I have a 75 gallon with very few bells and whistles.

Not a necessity for (me).

Being different and all is good, but sometimes there may be a good reason to be normal. ;)

Oh, its a necessity (for me).

:D :p

Bill,

Zach has seen mine and I ahve ALOT going on too..we are about matched for functions methinks excpet I also run float switches with ATO.

Zach, good luck on your endeavor, but be wary of Neptune's service and slowness of both fixes and features. So far it's a copy cat..and thats ok..the cmpetetion is good for us all and drives better features and units in the future...but a 1 man shop is cary when you are outlaying that smae 600 bucks.

PS your sig query has a syntax error. Figure it out by Sunday night and PM me and I will give you a prize :D

I agree it's a copy cat, that's alright though. Still leaning towards the RKE. Just waiting to see what is announced for both.

Man... I absolutely cannot WAIT until MACNA and Reef-A-Palooza!

Every layover on the way back from Vegas, Zach, I'll be checking DA's website.

You should have told me last night that you were going to Vegas.
I always like to give a dollar for a slot machine pull, Who knows?

OK It's here and working! From my first Calibration I'm getting a reading of 33.6 which translates to around 1.025 or so. But It say's It will trend upward and to wait 72 hrs and re calibrate and see If It stops trending upward, If It does your done If not redo once more. This Is the best thing that I like about this controller, No more guessing about Salinity! Yeah Buddy....
Bill

Thank you, Current reading 34.2 and holding It seems to have stoped at this point. If so My old swing arm was only off slightly.

Got mine in the mail today. Getting that up and going is number 12 on the todo list I think. Hopefully will have the basics going on the RKE tonight. I am looking forward to the pH and Salinity measurements.

Just checked again and now It's right at 35 PPT Which Is what the correct Salinity I keep my tank at, But It Is still trending higher as 35.1 Is going back and forth so we'll see what the morning brings?
Bill

35.7 This morning, So It's still going higher than I believe my salinity to be! Hmmm. Looks like a second calibration will be In order If not more!

Bill, salinity monitors are always a PITA. You better get used to calibrating it all the time as they are notorious for swings. Personally I would never use one to control anything. More for a data tool. My refracto is less work, hehe ;)

Not sure if you have the time or inclination Bill but as you have all three types of measures (refractometer, swing arm, and RKE probe) I would very much like to see what all three come up with at the same time over several trials. You could post it as a article on the new website. It would be cool...I think......but I am a huge NERD!

Hope your wrong with this new system from DA But who knows too early to tell yet. According to them this Is the Calibration process they describe to the tee.
After I've gone through all what they say Is needed to get It working correctly and It does not work, We will take that up with DA!

Sorry I do not have a refractometer, Never have! Always used the swing arm since I started In the hobby many moons ago.
I'm sure someone will do what your asking anyway though It may be on DA's website!

I would be interested in knowing how it works out too. just from my experience salinity monitors and probes drift alot and need a lot of calibration. Hopefully this one will be better.

my bad

Seems like everyone is stating the use of this probe will be just for monitoring and setting up actions against it would not be advisable. Even if it is not perfect I like that I can set an alarm for my set point and if it goes of I can do a manual test. That with periodic schedule manual testing, should keep thing very stable. Unless of course the probe happens to drift at the same rate as the tank if there is a problem. All in theory of course, my probe is still in the package and is still a few done on the to do list. Right now I'd be happy if my temp probe actually worked.
