Slapshot's corals

Waterbox Keeper
Had the distinct pleasure of visiting Don Arndt (Slapshot) and photographing his NPS corals. He has a terrific tank. Here's a shot of his Chili (Alcyonium) coral. Several more NPS photos to come in the next day or so. Thanks again Don for the hospitality.

Don has an impressive sea fan. He thinks it's a Ventalina. Because of its positioning/angle, I was not able to to get enough depth of field to show it off properly. Here are the best shots I could get. The second shot is a significant crop of an 11-image portion of a 19-image stack that didn't go well. I knew I was stretching the limits of what could be done, but had to try. I show this image so people can get a better view of the very small polyps. I hope people enjoy/find the images informative.

Here are four views of Don's purple nephthea. This is the last set of shots from the session. I hope they're informative/enjoyable.

Again, wow. the sea fan polyps shot is beyond belief. Those are so small in person. As always nice work Gary.

One more thing. Don as an electric flame scallop. As a rule I don't do video, but I couldn't resist on this one. The scallop is positioned in a rather dark area, so the exposure is a little iffy, but you get the idea.

Thanks to all. Glad you're enjoying the images. Uhuru, sorry, but that's all for this session. Don has more, but they were uncooperative during my visit, despite his extensive efforts to make them open up.

nlandgraf: Canon 7D body; Sigma EX180 lens, with and without extension tubes; tripod; remote release; and mirror lockup.
