SLASH Coral Growing Contest: Raspberry Ice Acropora

Well, I'm off to a rocky start. Due to past experiences I remount everything new. I'm not sure what kind of glue you used Nick, but that stuff didnt want to pop off the plug. Cracked mine in two trying to get it off the plug.

I had the same problem. Broke in two when I finally got it off the plug. Glued both pieces on a new plug. I'll post a pic when the lights come on.

I cant guarantee that there were no bugs on the plugs.. but shesh.. i would have brushed it with a toothbrush or something and then dipped.

I definitely understand the precautions though, as i do the same thing. Next contest ill make sure to use frags that are not encrusted.. if that is possible.. I suppose i need to train the coral to gro up instead of encrust :celeb1:

LOL, no worries. Doubt it will make much difference, either it will grow or it won't. ;) I definitely will be sticking with my cheap gorilla glue from the big box store though. I was cutting under the glue and the glue was cracking thus breaking the frag. Never had that problem with other glues, they usually just separate from the plug or the surface of the plug breaks off with the glue.

Not your fault . . . I always pull frags off the plugs and I have clumsy hands so I typically break things. Glued the two pieces on a new plug and I'm good to go.

It's an awesome looking coral and I can't wait to see it grow out.

got it. thanks,

I am making a collage of all of our starter frags. Each picture will be labeled with your screenname and the date will be as of the swap date. This way we can all look at the corals in one picture vs scrolling through the pages trying to look. As of now there are two people who still need to send me pics which you can do via text or just put them up on here so I can copy them and put them in the collage.

Consider this the first picture of the contest... And yes, I did match the color of the coral to the font and the background of the picture! The mother colony in my tank is the top left picture and the rest are the contestants!

Good luck and if anyone has any questions, please let me know! :bounce3::bounce2::bounce1:

EVERY! SINGLE!! DAY!!!

My dumb urchins have picked up my frag and carried it around with them. Twice yesterday! Every single day since the swap.

I know a little bit of super glue or some epoxy would keep that from happening, but Nick told me, along with the rest of you probably, to put the thing at the top of the tank for a while and then move it down and it will change it's form to reach for the light. So, I really didn't want to have to break the bond to move it. But, it's either that or get rid of the urchins.

How is this thing supposed to grow another half an inch if they keep moving it around? Sheesh.

hahah this is awesome! you can put it whereever and im sure it will be fine. who knows, my colony might look better down low. I would put it directly under a light super high up. These frags were all under a kessil tuna blue that was running at about 40%. Moving corals up slowely is always recommended. i usually just put it lower and then after a few weeks i move it up. but i havent had much experience with frags of this colony yet.

Hey, why did you come in last place? "It was the urchins fault":D
