I think the white looking stuff means my coral chip is no longer with us. I don't like failing.

But it means I need to learn a bit more about this hobby before I try again.

So should I leave that frag in there? You know, just in case it's not really dead.

I wouldn't write that one off yet. Really small frags like these are notoriously hard to keep. Unless conditions are near perfect for it to thrive there is not enough colony resources to sustain it until it can adapt, and it can take them an exceptionally long time to start growing if they do adapt and survive. Just look at all the experienced SPS growers in here having a hard time with this one.

EDJFA the frag is def still alive.... i have a piece of ORA Joe the coral from smoothdog that STNed and i saved two tips. it is still a tip. but its still alive! lol its been 2 years though....... :/

OK, good to hear that it's not dead in the water. It did lose all of it's color, however. Is that loss of color a sign of bleaching, meaning I need to reattach it lower? I can move it down to where my Meteor Shower is. That one is spreading like crazy. It's never looked better.

Or I can leave it alone. It's right at the middle of the tank, maybe 16" from the lights.

I'll have to track my parameters better than I have been to make sure it has as good a chance to adapt as possible.

just let it be. touching corals does not help their growth. check your alk and try to keep it around 8.5 or so. and then calcium and mag keep at 435 and 1350.

I need to move it to get a better shot but here is my update. Now I can see two spots where I have about an 1/4" of growth. It looked dead last week. Slow and steady wins the race I hope.

Mine is stilling doing good. Sorry for the crappy picture I used a flashlight to highlight it but it kind of washed out the color. It has almost completely covered the sides of the plug.

Just thought I would drop an update. Mine seems to be doing great.

um yeah, im out, im so disappointed
I left for work one day after signs it was improving, I got home and it was completely white

jebus mpgrant, you've got steroids in your tank

I have a pavona 6" away that is bleaching and I am not sure why. I am wondering if that is getting to much light but the raspberry ice seems to really like where it is at. No steroids, no miracle grow, I just sing it sweet lullaby's at night before bed.:lol2:

Could be flatworms. Check for little bite marks. Dip in Bayer and check the solution for flatworms after

Funny you should say that. I have flat worms in my sump. I haven't seen any in my tank but the two are connected and don't see how I wouldn't have them. I am starting to treat for them but I will dip the coral and see.
