Slash question

Why do we have the slash.org site if we never really use it? It's been over a month since anyone posted to the members only forum, and certainly we can manage the CDP here or somewhere else. Maybe funds that could go to member raffles or something cool like that. Just a thought.

On a serious note I asked the same question before and the answer I got was lot of the business is conducted on the .org which is true.
As for the site not being used, a lot of members lurk on the .org and don't post anything. Maybe try posting something yourself to see what response you get.
Now for giving back to the members, I'd suggest showing up to a pizza night and see for yourself what has been implemented. I think the club is giving a lot back to the members who do participate in making the club what it is. The Apex for the members only raffle is a pretty sweat deal itself let alone all the other items we purchase for the raffle, or is it not. Dont forget the shopping sprees that is awarded to the top 3 CDP contributors yearly

Screen shot of the last 20 posts on the .org dating from 8/20 - 11/2. The last was 11/2, which along with 5 of the others was a reply from me. I do use it, and I do check it out. Seems like it is extremely under utilized, that's all I'm saying. Certainly that cost money to pay for the hosting and the domain name. Maybe in the spring we could give 2 Apex systems away...

A lot of the SLASH business is done behind the scenes on our website, along with our CDP program and our club's many sponsors that can advertise there. I am not sure what our annual fees are to club members to maintain that site, perhaps our treasurer smoothdog knows. There are also discussions where we need a forum for just our active memberships, for annual elections, etc, etc. I do believe the .org site is valuable and wouldn't favor removing it on the observation that it isn't as active as you'd like it to be. Our club has grown and attracted new members from our very active forum here, as RC is the largest, most active forum for unbiased information.

I personally was surprised that the club is not utilizing the Facebook group. I have watched Facebook take one of my hobbies and turn it into a career. I think Facebook could increase membership tremendously if utilized correctly. Facebook has a reach that dwarfs forum sites. BTW... I need to go renew my membership, thanks for the reminder!

Ok. That answer makes sense. Thank you.

To add to what has already been said, there are a few reasons we have that site. I will agree that the general membership section is under utilized.

First, as already addressed, club business is conducted on the .org site. The T-Shirts we are having made up would not have happened if it were not for that site. Fragswap planning and coordination takes place over there. It is also where we take official club votes since you have to be a member to both vote and access the location we put the votes.

Second, by keeping things like CDP and membership tracked on our own site we do not have to worry about some things. RC admins and mods do not have access to remove posts someone may not like, even if we need it. They also cannot alter our numbers. While not likely, RC could also go away tomorrow. This would take out information about membership, CDP, HELP, etc. with it.

Lastly, the cost just doesn't amount to anything much. I have two domains with hosting that user personally. They have zero business use and have very little on them. While not free, it would be quite a bit more expensive to have lunch once a month at a fast food place.

Hopefully this and the above helps with some of the confusion and questions. If there are still some questions, just let us know. As far as I know we are pretty dang transparent.

While I agree, it also lacks much of the usefulness. History is almost impossible to get and organization is pretty much nonexistent. Facebook is much more of a now mentality while many hobbies, especially this one, utilize research and other people's mistakes and information.

That being said, I agree that our social media is under utilized. It is definitely something we have discussed.

My question wasn't to stir up crap or blow a whistle. I was just curious, since 99.999999 of the our traffic is on the RC forum. Thank you all for explaining it, it does make sense especially from a stance of outsisers(RC Admin) being able to poke around....
