Sleeping Fish

This may seem a bit odd and a bit nieve of me, but do fish sleep. I have tapped on the glass and the fish doesnt move. Yet when i turn on the light he reacts slightly. Is he dying or sleeping

My clown likes to sleep in a depression in the sand at the front of the tank.

My six line wrasse secretes a mucus cocoon and sticks himself to the side of my live rock somewhere. He actually freaked me out when I first had him in the QT tank. He had stuck himself between the bottom of the tank and an airstone. He was half curled up and in hibernation mode where he was barely breathing. I thought he was dead and was very depressed that morning. I got home from work and was all ready to flush him down the toilet. Imagine my surprise when he was swimming around and wanting me to feed him.

Oh this reminds me of a funny story. When i first got into salt water I set up my tank and then added a couple damsels and a couple tangs in my 75. in the middle of the night I looked in the tank and saw all my fish very discolored and laying lifeless on the rocks!!! I was like awww ##$#% I almost got the net out and flushed them all down the comode and i thought naaa i'll do it in the morning, what the heck they're already dead. The next morning i woke up and checked on the tank and they were all fine swimming around.

Man am i glad I didnt flush em!!!

I thought there was something wrong with my unicorn tang and wanted a new one when I went to pick it up off the counter at the LFS.. Because it was brown and blotchy..

I thought my mandarin was dead he was pale and literally motionless laying stomach down on the sand under a rock in the back. He was just sleeping. He ofcourse has another sleeping spot where I can't see him anymore. Most fish find sleeping spots where you can never see them.

But my 2 clownfish (also) sleep against the front glass right on the sand. But they wiggle now and then and are never completely motionless. It's cute they actually look like they are cuddling and using eachother for security.

My clowns sleep side by side on top of the powerhead. First it was MaxiJet1200 but now they sleep on SEIO1100

All my fish dissapear into the rockwork at night except my cardinall which is nocturnal.

I thought 2 of my clowns were dead also,they were laying completely motionless.I shined the light on them and you can see there gills moving.My son kept saying "The Nemo's are Dead" but he wasn't freaked out.

my stripped fang blenny sleeps in the corners verticaly on the silicone. it still freaks me out. he looks dead and stuck at the same time!

my clowns sleep in all kinds of strange spots. most the time they dig out a spot in the sand and lay down on their sides.

I had a niger trigger who liked to lie on his side to go to sleep. I walked in and was freaking out, poking him with a net because I though it died. It woke up like four minutes later and swam around.

I had a Valentini Puffer who would attach itself to the corners of the tank and rock and would stay "stuck" like that and go to sleep.
