What else has he eaten? Do you feed him enough? If he is underfed I could understand him snacking on a fish, but it is also probably just your individual SFE's personality. Mine is pretty peaceful, even when he is hungry or their is food in the water he never bothers the other fish, he just swims around and tries to get the food. Although what I really am interested in is what were fish #1-4?

Sorry about the loss though, he was a very nice looking fish.

I think I got a really aggressive one.He came right up out of the water and bit my better half while she was holding a bamboo skewer.

He is getting fed every other day now instead of 2x a week.

My snowflake, which gets fed a silverside every couple of days is extremely aggressive and will launch himself out of the tank trying to get at the feeding stick. He is now in a quarantine tank because he broke is jaw trying to eat a maroon clown. Ate about half the clown before giving up.

Sorry to hear. Though, I'm kind of wondering why a little 2" hawkfish was with an agressive SFE. Maybe try bigger fish that have a chance? Were the others all on the smaller side as well?

The eel is still a predator folks.... They "tend" to eat certain things more than others but they still have the urge to hunt. Sorry about your loss...

I keep a 6" lawn mower blenny for algae control with an 11" golden puffer. The puffer doesn't bother him but if he one day does eat him I'm not going to blame the puffer for being what he is....

Most people just don't understand how a snowflake eel's motives are dealt out.
Yes he's very large but fish loss with him is several months in between.

I understand, it is a very nice looking SFE. I tried one in the beginning when I was a newbie, but found it under the couch (crusty with dust).

If you want to keep other fish with it, maybe just try larger ones to reduce the chance of them being ate? Otherwise, maybe one of the sand burrowing wrasses would be good as it would be burried at night and very active during the day.

Nope, I agree, he won't be getting out. If I get another eel that is the plan. It was just a small opening between the HOB skimmer and end of the tank, but amazingly it got through it.

Well, history does have a way of repeating itself. If you tried again, maybe some more decor to create additional hiding places would help.

That 200$ bllue ridge coral is about as good as it gets.Triggers just love it.He just has a taste for fish.

What size tank is it and are there any fish with him? If the tank is large enough you could try a good sized tang or wrasse and see if he will kill even that, and if he does then you know you better let him live alone.

Also my eel has bitten my dad before while he was feeding the eel but he is very rarely aggressive toward fish.

Try feeding your snowflake eel silver sides. Mine hasn't touched any of my chromises or damsels.
Silversides would just worsen his taste for fish.
