Sloughing Tissue on new Arrival

fraggin corals

New member
I just received a shipment from a well known online retailer of corals and fish. One of the acros came in with the shipping bag discolored and smelling wicked. When I called the retailer and informed them of this, I was told to acclimate it anyway and add to the tank as normal. Should I do this? I don't want to just discard the coral but I also don't want to risk the other corals in quarantine. Would it be safe to add it none the less? I also want to make sure to follow the retailers instructions so that if the animal dies I get credit for it.

Assuming no pests I don't see a problem dipping and place it in your tank. STN and RTN is not contagious.

I would add it to teh tank. A frag won't hurt an established system, and you never know, if might recover.

I put dead looking stuff in the sump under a LED flood light. Every now and then something surprises me and makes a comeback.

while a good dip and perhaps a re-frag cut may survive, I'd lean on insisting that they send you a replacement so you have a better chance

Unfortunately it was a mini colony and was wysiwyg. The other corals in the shipment were fine. The one in question is an Acropora monticulosa and looked great on their site when I ordered it. I did acclimate and dip it prior to adding it to the tank so I'll just keep an eye on it. The down side is that now my fish room smells like dead coral. While they did say let them know if it survives or not for credit, it's just that to have two corals in two separate shipments come in with fouled water and sloughing tissue makes me wary of ordering again.
