Slow forum

Seems like we have a slow forum here. Any ideas to generate more discussion, pictures, tank builds, etc for the local forum?

I would really like to see some shots of the progression of what you have done with your tank over the last few months.

You have sold off some corals and bought some new(by the way the zoas I got from you are looking good) I am really curious as to what your tank shots look like before the renovation and afterward.

Sure. But I will have to wait for my lights to come on this afternoon to take a new full tank shot.

I am planning on undertaking the task of vacuuming my sand for the first time ever, while I do my water change this afternoon. My sand bed is only about 1 3/4", so it should be ok. I will probably only vacuum the top layer anyways, but I can only imagine the junk that is going to come up from there after a year of the tank being up.

I will also try to find take some growth pictures of the few corals that I have kept over the past year and see if I can see noticeable changes.

so in the past you've just been siphoning out water and not disturbing the sand bed? i bet you will pull up some ugly stuff.. :)

i don't disturb my sand bed either(i guess cause i have 8 brittle stars, 30 narrisus snails, 20 cerith snails and over 50 bristleworms

I'm planning on having a 4" sand bed. I didn't know if I should try to clean the sand with a syphon or just leave it up to a good little clean up crew. I like the idea of them doing it cause I'm pretty lazy. Will they keep the sand clean if stocked properly???

From what I understand, if you have a 4" or deeper sand bed, it qualifies as a 'deep sand bed' and should be left alone. Less than that should be ok to vacuum. I think with a deep sand bed if you disturb it you run the risk or releasing toxic stuff into your tank. I vacuumed 1/2 of my tank last night, I only have about 1 3/4" sand. Did one side of it pretty completely. I got some nasty stuff out, and that side of the tank looks much better sand wise. Looks like a new tank on that side. I ran my filter sock and a hang on canister filter while I did all this, trying to minimize the junk floating around in the tank. The water got pretty cloudy, but between the canister filter and the filter sock, the water was clear within 30 minutes or less. I am going to vacuum the other side of my tank in a couple of weeks.

Not worry - I'll be moving to Memphis in a few weeks and hope to join the local club.

I tend to be a bit of a poster so anticipate a bunch of new threads, even if some of them might be OT

Careful some curmudgeons find that offensive (when you do it, not when they do it.)

I suppose they'll have to get over themselves ;)

Indeed, that and some other things.
