Slowest Growing Aggressive Fish

What Fish grow around 1" or less a year?

I know one of the slowest growing fish in the world is a orange roughy. They live for about 100+ years and aren't sexualy mature till there 20, but I don't know if they're availible in the trade.

Picasso Trigger or Undy Trigger are very slow growers. My Blue Line Trigger isn't growing that fast, about 2" in the last 15 months.

These all grow decently slowly in length but get bulky like little swimming footballs. Once they hit 3" though they become unstoppable terrors who can, and often times will destroy all your other fish.

I was asking because I want a fish that will grow at par with my niger. My niger is 3"

Niger will grow faster in length then the Picasso (but slower in girth). If you really want another trigger I would go with a blue throat or a Sargassum. They will grow at the same rate as your Niger but at that point you need to be looking at a 150g tank or larger when they are grown.

clownfish stay small & many get enough attitude to get along with triggers. My cinnamon clown at 1/2 to 1/3 the size (length & mass) vs my hawian trigger pushes my trigger around the tank

Gold Stripe Maroons are always an option as well. But keep in mind that with a planktivore type trigger like the niger you may not need to get aggressive tankmates. I would try a fish you like first and see how it does, there is a GOOD chance that you have a very peaceful Niger. My 5" Sargassum wouldn't hurt a fly (or invert).

My Niger is a baby, he is scared of the magfloat and floating stuff.. I want a fish or trigger that will grow at par because I had gotten a velvet damsel and he was one more inch but tried to dominate. So by keeping them at par, les turf wars? Or am I wrong.. will it happen either way?

I agree with the Undy becoming a terror, but disagree with the Picasso, a few factors can determine a Picasso aggression and the first is tank size, no trigger should be kept long term in anything less than 180 gallon,
Queens, clowns, bluelines should be kept in 400 plus gallon tanks to lessen aggression. I have a 7" Picasso in my 500 gallon for the last 2 years no problems, and kept one for 6.5 years before that.

if you want to avoid turf wars, you may not necessarily need a tankmate that grows slowly, but one that is simply non-aggressive (but no pushover himself).

There are some hardier butterflies that you may consider.
