Small ORA Maxima

I picked up a really nice ORA maxima this weekend. I acclimated it slowly and placed it in a old clamshell hoping it will attach so I can easily relocate it for some higher lighting.

We have a good amount of flow in the tank (sps). I noticed over the two days that it's moved a bit to its side. Should I leave it where it is, or try to find another spot?

I have it down low, only a couple of inches off the sand (in a 180 under 250's). Where it's bearly a 2" maxima I planned to gradually move it to higher lighting. Should I start moving it up now? Do you think the flow is bothering it?

It's also rather skittish when ever fish go by. I've not seen a single one stop and peck at it or its shell. Maybe because it's from ORA it was in a fishless environment and isn't used to fish going past?

Closing when a fish goes by is a natural defense mechanism, so don't worry about that. It will happen whether it is your hand or a fish going over it and blocking the light.since it is small, I'd get it closer to the light, maybe 6-8 inches from it, if you have the space.

wow, that close? Should it be gradual?

FYI - the lights are about 8" above the tank, so it can't get that close any way. But I can give it a top spot.

Thanks!

I dont know if i would move it up that close.. i also have a ORA maxima not that it matters where it came from.. but mine is about 20 in from the light and i have a 26 bow with a 150hqi. and i have had it for about 5-6 mths no issues

i have 2 ora maximas both under 2 inches and both have been on my sand bed in 90 gallon since i got them. i have 2 250 10k se sps bulbs on my tank and they have been in my system for almost a year. acually they are over two inches now. there is alot of debate on feeding them when they are that small and if it makes a differece so i will just tell you what has worked for me. i grow my own photo plankton and twice a week i put mine in a small contanier and dose it with photo plankton and let the clams sitt for about 15 min or so. i have mine atached to half shells for easy moving. have been doing this since i got them and both very healthy and growing great somthing to thing about

^ heh, that's what I'm afraid of ;)

Seems to have settled in. It turned to be parallel to the current. Hopefully it will attach nicely to the shell it's on and I can move it up a bit.

Thanks!
