Small Tank in a Bookshelf

I was looking to put my small 9 gallon into the lower shelf of bookcase, and find myself worrying about water damaging whatever material its made of. Is there some kind of clear sealant I can use to protect it?

If pics are necessary Ill clear it out and take some.

Is your shelf HARDWOOD? If it's not, I would not put a tank of even half a gallon on a composite or pressed wood shelf.....ever. It will get wet.

You can use a polyethylene varnish.

Let's just say that you're 9 gallon tank will weigh 150 lbs to allow for a bit of a safety factor. Will your shelf safely support that weight without bowing?

Thanks guys wasn't thinking it through completely. The weight is to great for this particle board sawdust crap to hold up the tank, and I would need to re-enforce it to do so, but any moisture would probably melt it.

At this point I would rather build a new one from scratch, and I might as well just build or purchase a proper stand.
