Small Temperature Fluctuations In Tank

It is normal to have 4-5 degrees temperature fluctuations in tank water?

Sometimes I see my temperature scale as 75 and at other times I see 80 degrees fahrenheit.

Is this normal? If so, how much are your temperature fluctuations?

My temperature stays at 79. It does fluctuate but only in the summer, not on a day to day basis. It may go up and down 1 degree during the day but that's the max I have seen it fluctuate.

i see, maybe due to lower water concentrations, I think i may have needed to top off so it was a bit warmer than usual now that i think of it

What size of tank? what lights are you running? When are you seeing this fluctuation?

If your seeing this in the morning after the lights have been off all night, you need to vent your lights better. If that is not the case, maybe your heater is malfunctioning. Depends on the size of the tank. A 5 degree swing in a 20 gallon tank is much easier than in a 120.

My NC28 stays at 78 all year pretty much.

I usually had 2-3 degree fluctuations of temp through the day but feel it's good to have them as long as they're slow and gradual both ways so if god forbid something does happen you wont shock your tank by going from constant 78 to 76 out of nowhere....

In my tank ...pretty much 77 + 1 degree or less this time of the year, summer goes up 3 degrees that's why I am planning to get chiller this summer.

In the winter my tank water in the a.m goes down to around 77 and get up to 81 in the p.m before my chiller kicks in. I do not use heaters in my tank. Never seen any problem with the fish or coral with the temperature fluctuations in the water

In winter I go from 76 in the morning to 79 at night. Then in summer I go from 77 to 81 every day and don't have any issues. I don't use a heater or a chiller, just a little fan that blows at 79.

My tank stays right around 76-77 degrees almost all year round... possibly up to a 78 when summer is here, and the halides have been on.

My tank goes from 79 in the morning to 80.5 or so in the peak, maybe 81.... No problems so far... My old cube was on the main level, and in the summer time went from 78 at night to 83 in the day times if the A\C wasn't on. Fish, Corals, nems, no one ever had a problem because they got used to it...

Sounds like a crappy heater or a small tank or not enough circulation.

My 5 gallon stays at 80 all the time. Sounds like you have a faulty heater...?
