Why would you buy something with the intention of getting rid of it? A good rule of thumb is to only keep what you can maintain into adulthood. I would say no.

Were you just looking for something yellow, or did you need an algae eater? Maybe we can suggest something more appropriate for that size tank.

yea i dont think it s a good idea. I had one in my old 37 and after a while he got very very very aggressive to all my other fish and very very skittish.

kept a scopas tang (same family) for 2+ years in my 30g and if you read my post earlier in the week, i recently brought him to the LFS for a better home...he became a little too big for the 30, and far too aggressive, i couldnt add anything after him because he would kill it right away, i had smaller fish in the tank, but because they were there first, he was fine. it was supposed to be a temp. move but turned out to be ALOT longer....don't do it it will be a bad idea in the future.

really a 55 gallon long is even too small, you would have to watch him closely to be safe, and still he is going to out grow that tank so for your tank i would say no.
